Métis partnerships

Métis Nation BC – Northern Health Letter of Understanding (LOU)

Métis Nation British Columbia, Northern Health and the 11 Métis Chartered Communities in the Northern region are working together to improve access and equity to culturally safe care for Métis. In 2020 a Letter of Understanding (LOU) was signed forming the foundation for collaborative efforts to enhance Métis health and wellness outcomes in the North. The LOU constitutes a framework in which MNBC and NH can work together to increase the influence of Métis in decisions related to health services that impact them.

MNBC-NH Leadership Committee

The MNBC-NH Leadership Committee works to implement the goals of the Métis Nation BC – Northern Health LOU.

The committee includes representatives from:

  • Northern Health Indigenous Health

  • Métis Nation BC

Map of Métis Chartered Communities

There are 11 Métis Chartered Communities in the North. Métis Chartered Communities are volunteer-run and organized associations that have incorporated to help Métis citizens and self-identified Métis connect to each other and to their culture. Chartered Communities advocate for and support their members through a variety of programing and funding opportunities and each president or leader represents their community by serving on the Métis Nation Governing Assembly, the governing legislative body of Métis Nation British Columbia (Métis Nation British Columbia, 2021).
